Start Line
From SecondSailing
Here are directions for using the NYC start lines. All the others are similar, but each Line is set to the group of that particular club. Join them all! I copied these directions from the "Trudeau Racing Thread" on the Second Life Sailing Federation forum. You may find a lot of other simple directions there as well (such as how to ID your Trudeau boat).
NYC Start Line Directions--------------------------------------------------
- Your Avatar must have an active NYC Group tag to control the start line, but individual racers can be wearing any SL Group tag.
- Since the start line identifies boats by their “ID,” all racers must give their boats unique ID numbers. See prior postings in the thread for details on how to assign a racing ID to your Trudeau boat. A few more comments on IDs:
- Registering a TAKO ID on the SLSAILING.ORG website is a nice way to ensure you have a unique boat number. However, you don’t need to register a number to race; you just need to have a different number from all the other racers, so the start line doesn’t get confused.
- You can also use the same number for all the boats you want to race, since you only race one at a time. (remember, though, that Trudeau boats use a two digit numerical ID format (“#XX”), while TAKOs have two letter plus two digit IDs).
- IMPORTANT - You must click on the start line once to activate its listen event. The listen event is automatically deactivated after the timer starts, and requires a touch to reactivate.
- Start line command list (for the Avatar controlling the line):
- "+time x" - set the countdown time to x seconds (default is 120 s).
- "+start" - start the countdown timer running.
- "+pause" - stop the countdown timer momentarily.
- "+reset" - stop the countdown timer and reset.
- "+help" - displays help text.
- "+minlaptime x" - sets the minimum possible lap time (default is 60 s). Used to detect cheating or inadvertent recrossings.
- "+numlaps n" - sets the number of race laps (default is 1).
- "+results" - reports the final standings.
- "+settings" - reports current minlaptime and numlaps values
- When you have set all the variables, say "+start" to begin the race countdown.
- The start line will automatically track individual racers during the race.
- Racers' finishing positions will be shouted as they cross the line after the last lap.
When activated, the start line timer will count down to the actual start event, then display the elapsed race time after the start.
