From SecondSailing
Hi Misha, I completely agree.
I started a topic (accessible from the main page) "Learning to sail".
I already started a first structure (just change it as you like) and started to fill the "novice" chapter. I also copied your issues to the "Learn to sail" branch and tried to sort them in where I felled they where right.
M1sha (and everybody of course): Please take a look and enhance my first attempt.

Vin: just to add my raw data, here is a topic list I made earlier. I suggest one of us collate the union of our topics and apply some shallow hierarchy. Put it on the main(?) page and we can all polish it. I will be willing to do this if desired. I also have content for beginning sailors and beginning racers. I'll look for a way to get that integrated with what's already up. (Note to all contributors: when using the word "currently" or similar, put a date in parends, so everyone knows how currently.
- How to start sailing
- How to start racing

- Courses?
There needs to be a Glossary category. Sailing's replete with terms of art that are a real barrier to new sailors. I'm prepared to plough through every article identifying Glossary items and writing definitions, but it would be really nice to have a Glossary category to add them to.

Content Structure Suggestion
I created a map with a possible content structure for the wiki - you can view it here. The basic idea was to simplify the top level structure and group stuff wherever appropriate. I have three main top level items:
- Community Portal
- this includes both the sub pages for the wiki's community (how to contribute, to do lists, wiki etiquette) as well as the pages for the SL Sailing community as a whole
- Learn to Sail
- All beginner-level sailing instruction, tutorial series etc.
- All instructions that is not exclusively race-related (with some overlap I'm sure)
- Racing in SL
- specific instructions for racing in sl: rules and regulations, which rules apply and which ones don't, the relationship between ISAF rules and SL practice, sl quirks/peculiarities and their effect on racing rules etc.
- intermediate & advanced topics that wouldn't be of interest to the casual sailor
The Main Navigation would be rounded out with
- Events
- a top page that would link to the calendar but also to subpages for other sailing events)
- Resources
- a general page linking the ecosystem of SL Sailing together)
- Recent Changes and Help (i.e. wiki help) pages
Take a look at the whole thing and tell me what you think.
