Use of abbreviations for Yacht clubs

Hi Chaos, you're certainly right, that common abbreviations should be mentioned somewhere and in a fashion that makes their meaning clear.

On the other hand, there where distinct pages about "NYC" and "Nantucket Yacht Club" and there was the fear that they started to have a separate life on their own, containing redundant information and making maintenance hard. So removing these pages was a decision that seemed smart.

Here is what I'd suggest as a solution:

• All abbreviations get mentioned in the Glossary with a link to the long names
• We introduce new pages under the name of the abbreviations (so they can be found by a search) and make them point to the long name pages. We lock them, so nobody can add information to them.

Another idea that I need to follow up upon before I can promise anything is to install a new / better search engine that allows to find NYC via the regular search box at the left. The media-wiki default search seems to suppress short words.
